The only rule that matters right now
This week Austin runs 104–105°F, feels-like 110°F by noon — but it is 78–83°F at 6am. Every outdoor plan below is a dawn plan: out the door by 7:00, in shade or water by 7:30, home by 10:30. A task now runs Fri/Sat/Sun at 6am, reads the actual forecast, and writes that morning's plan — outdoors whenever the numbers allow, indoors only when they don't.

Your stated gap. Central Market is a grocery fish counter — fine, never great. These two are where the fish actually is; Quality Seafood (below, in Institutions) is the third.
Your other stated gap. Phoenicia is the one an old-timer names first.
Costco has your beef. These cover what it can't: lamb, goat, custom cuts, dry-age.

Old and still good — the filter is that each one still turns up in current local guides on the strength of the food, not the nostalgia. Every one is family- or owner-run and still making the thing it got famous for.
Drive times from the house. Carrier = rocky, wear Ayah; stroller = paved. Creek trails beat hill trails in August — moving water is the only free air conditioning.

The thing nobody says out loud: adult friendships come from repeated unplanned contact, not from events. One recurring commitment beats ten one-offs. Pick two below and go every week for three months — that is the whole strategy. All three masjids listed are Sunni, verified, not assumed.

The second window nobody uses. Sunset is 8:25pm right now and it's about 90° and falling by 8 — which in August counts as pleasant. Out at 7:15, home by dark.
October onward the whole city opens up and the dawn rule stops applying. Two of these are reservation-gated and sell out — worth knowing before you drive.
